Take care of your rapeseed from the fall onward

Harvest of early cereals and rape in Ukraine is coming to an end. It is high time to prepare for sowing winter rape.
One of the best predecessors for rape is winter wheat. Therefore, in addition to stubble husking after harvest, which provokes the germination of wheat fallow and weeds, it is necessary to plan and prepare for fall feeding.

To develop strong and healthy plants with a well-developed root system in the fall, canola requires not only nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K), but also magnesium (Mg) and sulfur (S).

Depending on the growing zone, density and level of crop development, winter rape plants can absorb from 60 to more than 100 kg/ha of N, 60-90 kg/ha of K₂O, 20-40 kg/ha of P₂P₅ and 10-15 kg/ha each of sulphur and magnesium. First of all, it is necessary to take care of a strong and developed root system, the development of which is influenced by phosphorus and potassium, so they should be applied before sowing, which will ensure the proper development of the rosette with about 10 leaves, with a low planted growth cone and root neck thickness of at least 12-15 mm.

In addition to macronutrients, such trace elements as boron (B), manganese (Mn), molybdenum (Mo), copper (Cu), iron (Fe), which play a very important role in the development of rape, as well as in the formation of its resistance to abiotic and biotic factors, play an important role in the resistance of rape to frost. This is especially true for boron, which contributes to the accumulation of soluble sugars – one of the most important components, which affects the increase of winter hardiness, as well as sulfur.

It should be taken into account that boron (B) is not very mobile in the plant and the symptoms of boron deficiency first appear on young leaves. Solu Bor is used to solve problems with boron deficiency and to overcome symptoms of micronutrient deficiency. A solution adapted to the needs of rape is the microfertilizer Basfoliar 12-4-6+S, which contains nitrogen, sulphur and the trace elements: boron (B), manganese (Mn), molybdenum (Mo). In addition, it also contains copper (Cu), zinc (Zn) and iron (Fe), which are extremely important for rapeseed. Importantly, the trace elements in the fertilizer (except boron and molybdenum) are chelated by IDHA, making them readily and quickly available to plants.
